Stained Glass Effects Part Two

The tiles below are samples and need to be placed in your "textures" files of Paint Shop. Locate Windows Explorer. Open "Program Files" and then scroll down to Jasc Software. Open that, you will see Paint Shop Pro. Open it up and scroll down until you find "textures" place them in there. Pick a name or number them so you can remember them easily.

Open Paint Shop Pro and open the image you plan to use. Use a black and white image, as before black and white clip art is wonderful for this! Check your layers, and be sure all are merged. If not, promote to a layer and merge ALL. Your colors need to be set at 16 million.

Enlarge your image a bit and check to make sure all black lines are touching each other, if not, use your paintbrush tool, select black as your color and connect it to the nearest other black line. Remember what a stained glass window looks like in doing this. There are lines that connect all pieces together.

Select your magic wand tool. Set your tolerance to 50. Hold down the "shift" button on your keyboard, and left click with your mouse on the black lines, and ONLY the black lines of your picture/pattern. You should see the moving dotted lines (marching ants) on all of the blackened lines. If not, still holding you shift button down, select the ones that do not have the moving line and click. You should have a black and white image now, with a moving dotted line (or "marching ants") following the path of the black lines.

Go to effects in the top menu/toolbar of Paint Shop. From the drop down menu select 3D Effects. Scroll down and select "Inner Bevel". In the drop down menu, select "Metallic". You can adjust the width if you'd like. I use a 5 myself. Settings are as follows: Smoothness 10, Depth 5, ambience, set at 0. Shineyness, I set at 80. In the color selction I have it set on white. Setting the angle at 358. Intensity 25 and Elevation at 45. I set my color usually at a dark grey to black or a blue black. Click "OK"

Again selecting your magic wand tool, leave the tolerance set at 50, and select an area to be "stained" by left clicking inside the area. You will now see the dotted line inside that area. Go to your colors. These are located in the upper right hand corner of Paint Shop and choose a color you would like. Then, go down to "textures" and select one of the stained glass images you have placed into your textures file.
