This tutorial has been written with the beginner to PSP in mind. Making your own backgrounds is not as hard as it seems! I will show you how to make a few very nice fancy looking backgrounds with a minimum of fuss. The samples you see below are just a few that I have made.


Open your Paint Shop Pro. Select the color of the background tile you would like by going to the far right side of your PSP and left clicking on the first color square. This is your "Foreground" color. Don't worry about background color. You can leave that one alone for now. Your "textures" settings on that side should be locked showing squares with a black "X" on them. If they don't, simply click on one of them and then select "no stroke texture" on the upper one and "no fill texture" on the lower one. Be sure the box marked "locked" is checked.

Select "New" image to work with. Your settings as shown below.

This may seem large, but we will resize it later on in this tutorial, and make it seamlessly tile!
In Part Two we will begin adding the texture effects for your background tile.
